About the journal
Biopharmaceuticals are pharmaceuticals manufactured by or using living organisms. These are by far the most complex of all commercial products. Biopharmaceuticals are rapidly increasing in number and importance, with over 600 currently marketed in the U.S. and European markets alone, a large number in development, and their number and percentage steadily increasing relative to small-molecule drugs. Biopharmaceuticals also are among the most profitable of all pharmaceuticals and many organizations worldwide are ramping up their investments in related R&D and expanding their portfolios through licensing. The situation is getting even more complex as large numbers of biosimilars and biogenerics enter markets worldwide. The discovery, development, manufacture and marketing of biopharmaceuticals require an integrated understanding of their scientific, technological and commercial/societal aspects, including regulatory and patent/IP considerations. Only those most knowledgeable concerning the diverse aspects of these products will be successful.
Biopharmaceuticals is the first and only peer-reviewed journal about biopharmaceuticals. In 2011, Biopharmaceuticals will be published quarterly. Individual web subscriptions are free (registration required) until January 2012. Biopharmaceuticals fully expects to be covered by the major abstracting/indexing services within the first two years of publication.
Biopharmaceuticals seeks submission of articles concerning biopharmaceuticals and the industry. Articles are particularly sought that go beyond reporting laboratory research findings and include discussions of the relevance of new scientific findings, technologies, laws and regulations, patents, products and marketing trends. This includes articles concerning the nature and how to define biopharmaceuticals, agent discovery and design, issues in product development, financing, clinical testing, regulatory approvals, patents and licensing, manufacturing and related technology assessments, market assessments and projections, scientific controversies and politics. Reviews, commentaries and specific case studies are particularly welcome. Please contact the Editor-in-Chief or the Managing Editor if interested in submitting an article.
